How to Add Tips to Receipts in SalesPlay POS

SalesPlay POS – Setting Up and Using Tips

The Tips feature in SalesPlay POS allows businesses to give customers the option to leave a tip when paying for their order.

Tip practices and requirements can vary between countries and regions. SalesPlay POS provides flexible tip settings so you can configure suggested tip percentages or leave the tip field open for customers to enter the amount they wish to give.

Once enabled, the configured tip options can appear on the Pre-bill and final receipt, allowing customers to select or write their preferred tip amount.

Note: Tip collection, calculation, taxation, receipt requirements, and whether tipping is permitted can vary by country and payment method. Businesses should configure tipping according to their local regulations and business practices.

How Tips Work in SalesPlay POS

SalesPlay POS supports two common ways of handling tips:

  1. Suggested Tip Percentage

You can configure suggested tip percentages, such as:

  • 5%
  • 10%
  • 15%
  • 20%

The configured percentage can be printed on the receipt as a suggested tip amount.

For example:

Total: $100

Suggested Tip – 5%: $5
Suggested Tip – 10%: $10
Tip: __________

The customer can then choose whether to follow the suggested percentage or enter another amount.

  1. Customer-Entered Tip

You can also leave the tip percentage/value empty when configuring a tip.

This allows the receipt to provide an empty tip field with a dotted line, where the customer can write the amount they wish to give.

For example:

Total: $100

Tip: …………………………..

This is particularly useful for businesses that use printed receipts and allow customers to manually write their tip amount.

Enable Tips

Tips must first be enabled from the SalesPlay Back Office.

Step 1: Open Features

  1. Log in to the SalesPlay Back Office Web Portal.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Select Features.
  4. Find Tips.
  5. Tick the Tips option.
  6. Click Save.

Once saved, the Tips option will become available in the Settings section and will be marked with a New tag.

Configure Tip Options

After enabling the Tips feature:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Click Tips.
  3. Select Add Tips.
  4. Enter a Tip Name.
  5. Enter the Tip Percentage.
  6. Click Save.

You can create multiple tip options with different percentages based on your country or business requirements. You can also add a separate tip option without a predefined value, allowing customers to write their desired tip amount on the pre-bill or receipt.

Example

Total: $100

Tip Name Percentage
Good Service 5% 5
Great Service 10% 10
Excellent Service 15% 15

Tip: …….8…………………….

Customers can then use the suggested tip amount as a reference when completing their payment and can enter whatever amount they wish.

Leaving the Tip Value Empty

If you do not want to provide a predefined percentage, you can leave the tip percentage/value empty when creating the tip option.

SalesPlay POS will provide an empty tip area on the receipt so the customer can write their desired tip amount manually.

This is useful for businesses where customers typically add tips by writing the amount on a printed receipt.

Tips on Pre-bills and Final Receipts

When Tips are enabled, the configured tip information can be displayed on both:

  • Pre-bill
  • Final receipt

The receipt can show the suggested tip information together with an area where the customer can enter or write the actual tip amount.

This approach is useful for restaurants and other businesses where the customer may decide on the tip after reviewing the bill.

Example Receipt

A receipt may appear similar to:

——————————–

Total                 100.00

Suggested Tip 10%         10.00

Suggested Tip 20%         20.00

Tip:                       ______

If no percentage is configured, the tip section can instead provide an empty area for the customer to enter their preferred amount.
